Slash Pool – Mining pool

Mining Pools

Slash Pool – Mining pool

Slush Pool is a European pool named after the nickname of the Czech programmer Marek Palatinus. He was the first to propose, back in 2010, the idea of combining hash rates for mining joint Bitcoin mining.

This is how BTC cloud mining appeared, which Slush Pool has been doing to the present, adding ZCash mining to it. This is not the only contribution of the team to the development of the cryptocurrency market. She is known for launching open source software for ASIC miners Braiins OS built on Linux platform and Trezor wallet for cold storage of Bitcoin.

Pool history

In 2010, programmer Marek Palatinus with the nickname Slush, after discussing the concept of cloud cooperation of miners for joint search of BTC blocks on the Satoshi Nakamoto website, launches Bitcoin.cz Mining Pool.
In 2011, Palatinus met Pavel Moravitz, who founded Braiins, a software development startup with partner Jan Čapek. They start working together on the pool after the world’s first hacker attack on Bitcoin.cz Mining Pool in 2012, which cost several thousand BTC.

In 2013, Čapek and Moravitz start developing the world’s first cloud mining software for Bitcoin, and Marek Palatinus launches a parallel project to develop a cold wallet under the SatoshiLabs brand. Today, this is the most popular equipment known under the Terzor brand.
The launch of Braiins in 2014 sets the standards for the cloud pool: systematization of payments, monitoring functions, digital democracy – a voting system for miners. In 2016, the partners decide to use the Palatinus nickname “Slush” in the name of the pool, which has become recognizable in the crypto community. By that time, the mining of the pool exceeded 1 million BTC.

SlushPool will release Braiins OS for ASIC miners in 2018, the first open source firmware with free access to the ASICBoost mining booster. Previously, maker Bitmain only opened this feature to select customers.
In 2020, the partners bought the remainder of the pool from Marek Palatinus. They stated their intention to rename the company to Braiins pool in the future.

SlushPool statistics and operating conditions

As of this writing, SlushPool has a 9.05 EH/s or 5% Bitcoin hash rate, which is significantly worse than the 2018 result, when the European pool had 18%, competing with leading Chinese miners.
The pool’s share of ZCash mining is 414 MSol/s or 7% of the total hashrate. SlushPool also supports co-mining (pooled) of low-cap coins: RSK, ELA, VCASH and NMC. These assets are not listed on the pool panel due to low rewards, except for Namecoin.
The pool pays daily rewards for sent balls, when the minimum mining threshold is reached:
Bitcoin – 0.01
ZCash – 0.01
The commission of the pool is 2% of the mined funds.

Features of SlushPool

The founders of the world’s first cloud service take a principled stance on supporting Bitcoin, considering all forks based on Satoshi Nakamoto’s blockchain as “temporary” digital assets. The lack of choice of other coins is the principal position of SlushPool.
This also explains the rejection of smart mining – the model of automatically switching ASIC miners to mine Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV. These and other PoW currencies will never appear on the platform. However, SlushPool is considering supporting PoS mining after Ethereum moves to version 2.

Before you start the demo Personal Area, switch to the Russian language. In the account settings this option will not be available, as well as changing many training settings. Despite these limitations, the user will fully understand the meaning of all the options in the account menu.

Setting up Bitcoin mining

Before mining BTC, the client must complete a Personal Account registration. The account login is used in the settings of the ASIC miner, working on the SHA-256 algorithm. This equipment must be connected to the SlushPool server before binding to the customer account.
Specify the following data in the ASIC-miner settings: stratum-server name, port, user name and password
The client should choose the address based on the proximity of the geographical location for the best ping speed:

• Europe: stratum+tcp://eu.stratum.slushpool.com:3333
• Russia: stratum+tcp://ru-west.stratum.slushpool.com:3333
• USA: stratum+tcp://us-east.stratum.slushpool.com:3333
• Japan: stratum+tcp://jp.stratum.slushpool.com:3333
• Canada: stratum+tcp://ca.stratum.slushpool.com:3333
• Singapore: stratum+tcp://sg.stratum.slushpool.com:3333

The UserID line should have: account login with a dot with vorker.
• userID: login.vorker

The vorker can be anything, if it is not specified, SlushPool will assign this name automatically. In the “Password” field, you can think of any simple password, like “123”. It does not affect the security of your work.

Log into myAlpari on the website and connect the woker by following the steps below:

1. Open the “Mining” tab.
2. Expand the Bitcoin coin menu on the sidebar
3. Select the “Settings” section in the sidebar
4. Click the “Connect Vokers” option on the right

In the window that appears, select the settings prescribed in the ASIC miner.
Mining Protocol V1
Stratum server address (shown automatically when selecting a country)
Set userID and password in the ASIC-miner
Click “Connect

On the same page below, specify the wallet address where the rewards for mining will be sent as soon as they reach the minimum payment threshold of 0.001BTC.
The client can distribute the rewards by percentages, among multiple accounts pre-registered on SlushPool.

Go to the “Work Panel” on the side menu to see the statistics of the attached ASIC miner.

Braiinis OS+ firmware and StratumV2 mining

SlushPool suggests using the firmware for ASIC miners – Braiinis OS+ to automatically configure the effective power consumption of the equipment, while running the SHA-256 algorithm. If the owner has applied these settings, the Stratum V2 mining protocol, created by SlushPool together with the developers of Bitcoin Core, is available to him.

Note especially that there are no ports in the Stratum server URL entry. The Stratum V2 protocol is available on three four types of servers:

• Russia:
stratum2+tcp://v2.ru-west.stratum.slushpool.com/u95GEReVMjK6k5YqiSFNqqTnKU4ypU2Wm8awa6tmbmDmk1bWt
• Europe:
stratum2+tcp://v2.eu.stratum.slushpool.com/u95GEReVMjK6k5YqiSqNqTnKU4ypU2Wm8awa6tmbmDmk1bWt
• US:
stratum2+tcp://v2.us-east.stratum.slushpool.com/u95GEReVMjK6k5kYqiSFNqTnKU4ypU2Wm8awa6tmbmDmk1bWt
• Shared server:
stratum2+tcp://v2.stratum.slushpool.com/u95GEReVMjK6k5kYqiSFNqqTnKU4ypU2Wm8awa6tmbmDmk1bWt

Setting up ZCash mining

Before mining ZCash (ZEC), the client needs to open an account on the SlushPool website, his login is used in the settings of the ASIC miner, which works on the Equihash algorithm. ZEC coin can also be mined on video card farms. Hardware must be connected to the SlushPool server before linking to the client account.
Write in the ASIC-miner settings, the following data: stratum-server name, port, user name and password
The client should choose the address based on the proximity of the geographical location for the best ping speed:

• Europe: stratum+tcp://eu.zec.slushpool.com:4444
• USA: stratum+tcp://us-east.zec.slushpool.com:4444
• Public: stratum+tcp://zec.slushpool.com:4444

The UserID line should have: account login with a dot with vorker.
• userID: login.vorker

The vorker can be anything, if it is not specified, SlushPool will assign this name automatically. In the “Password” field, you can think of any simple password, like “123”. It does not affect the security of your work.
Login to Personal Area on the website and connect the voker on the “Mining” tab by expanding the ZCash coins menu on the sidebar. Select the “Settings” section on the sidebar and click the “Connect Vokers” option on the right

In the window that appears, select the settings prescribed in the ASIC-miner: stratum server address (displayed automatically when selecting the country), the userID and password set in the ASIC-miner. Press “Connect”.

On the same page below, specify the wallet address where the rewards for mining will be sent as soon as they reach the minimum payment threshold of 0.001ZEC.
The client can distribute the rewards by percentages, among multiple accounts pre-registered on SlushPool.

Note that the platform supports both types of wallet addresses (Sapling Z and transparent address). However, addresses that begin with the letters “zs” are preferred in order to support performance.
Go to the “Work Panel” in the side menu to see the statistics of the attached ASIC miner.

SlushPool recommends using video card mining software to manage your video card farm:

• Claymore for AMD.
• Bminer, Funakoshi or Nheqminer for NVidia
• ethOS as a universal solution for AVD and NVidia

If you choose Claymore, you will need to download the software from the repository on the GitHub website. In the unpacked archive folder, you must find the bat-file and open it for editing by right-clicking and selecting the “Edit” option in the drop-down menu.

Editing “batnick” is performed depending on the type of miner program selected:

  • Example for Claymore:

ZecMiner64.exe -zpool zec.slushpool.com:4444 -zwal userName.workerName -zpsw x -allpools 1

ZecMiner64.exe -zpool stratum+ssl://zec.slushpool.com:4443 -zwal userName.workerName -zpsw x -allpools 1

  • Example for Bminer:

bminer -uri stratum://[email protected]:4444

  • Example for Funakoshi:

funakoshiMiner.exe -l zec.slushpool.com:4443 -u userName.workerName

  • Example for Nheqminer:

nheqminer.exe -l zec.slushpool.com:4444 -u userName.workerName

Only download mining software from the repository of the github website. You can find examples of editing “batons” on the pages of software developers.

Conclusion

SlushPool is underestimated by a number of users, due to the absence of smart-mining on the platform, focus on two types of cryptocurrency, low advertising activity. On the other hand, thanks to the development of Braiins OS proprietary firmware, together with the mining protocol from the developers of Bitcoin Core, the cloud pool provides the most efficient hash and power consumption rates.

High profitability is facilitated by the geographical spread of servers, guaranteeing fast pings and low possibility of data transfer losses. Video card owners may be attracted to ZCash mining. The SlushPool cloud pool ranks 6th in terms of hash rate of this anonymous cryptocurrency.
